Sherman was born on April 14, 1951 in Omaha Nebraska and grew up in New York where he played football and was a star wrestler. He received an athletic scholarship and later enlisted into the United States Marine Corps. After military service, he relocated to Covington, Ga where found his true passion through leading the youth of Newton County through his works as a Recreation Coordinator. He served in this role for 11 years until his retirement in 2013.
Outside of serving the youth, Sherman enjoyed spending time with his family, fishing and boating. On January 23, 2020 he lost a courageous battle with cancer at the age of 68.
